KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (Bernama) -- The Pakatan Harapan (PH) government will continue to implement women-friendly policies to further empower women, says PH Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin.

As such she urged employers to be more gender sensitive and inclusive when deciding on policies which affect their women employees.

"As a PH Member of Parliament (for Ampang) and also the Wanita chief, I will continue to press for the tabling of the Gender Equality Bill in Parliament to meet the time frame to change patriarchal norms and gender stereotyping in the country," she said in a statement here today.

On the verdict by the Federal Court for awarding Noorfadilla Ahmad Saikin only RM40,000 in damages for breach of her constitutional rights, Zuraida said she was very disappointed as the amount awarded did not justify the discrimination and humiliation Noorfadila was subject to back in 2011.

"Dismissing a woman on grounds of being pregnant is gender discrimination and this is something that the court cannot and should not allow, more so as we move away from old and outdated modes and practices," she said, adding that she empathised with Noorfadilla and other women who have been subjected to gender discrimination in the workplace.
