Support the current government - MOE Sec-Gen

PUTRAJAYA, May 16 (Bernama) -- Ministry of Education secretary-general Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad has urged educators to show their support to the new government in accordance with civil service rules and regulation.

He said support to the government that was now led by Pakatan Rakyat would ensure the empowerment of the country and the continuous improvement of educational development.

"A government official should at all times have unwavering loyalty to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, country and the government, which refers to the current government.

"Thus, educators, as civil servants, they should be loyal to the Prime Minister and the ministers consented by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and chosen by the people through a democratic system on may 9," said Alias when launching the 47th national-level Teacher´s Day celebration.

Also present was Education director-general Datuk Dr Amin Senin.

Alias also called for loyalty and trustworthiness to be instilled among students from young to ensure that they were more appreciative of the practice of loyalty and the parliamentary democracy system.

"At the ministry level, we are ready to support any changes introduced by the new government and the minister who will lead the ministry," he added.

In the event, Hamzah Othman received the 'Tokoh Guru 2017' award, while former education director Tan Sri Khair Mohamad Yusof was named as 'Tokoh Kepimpinan Pendidikan'.

Both 62-year-old recipients each took home a cash prize of RM45,000, medals and award certificates.
