Anwar confident team headed by PM the best

PETALING JAYA, May 16 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim believes the team headed by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Prime Minister, is the best group to bring the nation towards a better direction for the people as a whole.

Speaking for the first time before thousands of supporters tonight after being released from prison, the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader said that he was confident Pakatan Harapan's top leaders were committed to making good changes for the country.

Anwar, who had just been freed after receiving a full pardon from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V today, stressed that he had no problems with Dr Mahathir during whose administration he was put in jail.

"Why are you angry after we have made up? The people in the campaign period were very angry that I was treated so badly, why mend fences?

"You all do not understand brotherhood, do not understand kinship, people want to be good with us, we have to reciprocate, but if people rob us, oppress the people, take 1MDB money, that we should not be good with," he said in his speech at the People's Merdeka Gathering which was attended by thousands of supporters.

Also present were his wife, who was named Deputy Prime Minister-designate, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu (Defence Minister-designate), Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (Home Minister designate) and DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng (Finance Minister-designate).

Anwar, who was also a former Deputy Prime Minister, insisted that his relationship with Dr Mahathir was not made on the basis of political considerations.

"No, I will not support Tun Dr Mahathir if I am not sure he can bring good and change, I support him because I am confident he and his team, whom are all are my friends, Mat Sabu and Guan Eng, can bring good change to the country," he said.

Earlier, Anwar's arrival at 10 pm was greeted by his supporters who were so happy that they shed tears after his release.

It was also followed by shouts of 'Reformasi' by the crowd.

The event to fete Anwar began with Maghrib Isyak and tarawih prayers before some of the top PH leaders gave their speeches.
