10 Kedah excos scheduled to take oath of office on Tuesday

ALOR SETAR, May 17 (Bernama) -- Ten members of the Kedah state executive council are scheduled to take their oath of office on Tuesday, said newly-elected Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

He said each of them would be called to seek an audience with the Sultan of Kedah Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah at the Istana Anak Bukit here on Monday to obtain his consent.

Mukhriz said the new exco line up comprised four PKR assemblymen, Amanah (three), PPBM (two) and DAP (one).

"Following the swearing-in ceremony, as the Kedah Menteri Besar I am expected to chair the first exco meeting the next day (Wednesday), following our victory in the 14th Umno General Election on May 9," he told reporters at the Pakatan Harapan (PH) breaking-the-fast event here tonight.

Mukhriz said that for the post of state speaker it would be filled by the PKR assemblyman while the deputy speaker would be elected from PPBM.

"I think the appointment of the exco members is not as slow as claimed by certain parties and it does not have to be carried out hastily," he said.

In another development, Mukhriz said the Kedah Football Association (KFA) management has also met him recently and offered him the post of KFA president.

However, he said he would consider it, in order not to contradict the PH manifesto to eliminate political interference in football.

"I will consider it because as I have stated earlier that I would eliminate the involvement of politicians in KFA, but I also need to look into the request and feedback of the people of Kedah as well and I am still open and if necessary, I will lead KFA once again, " he said.

KFA deputy president Datuk Paduka Syed Unan Mashri Syed Abdullah in his media conference yesterday has confirmed that former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah has resigned as KFA president effective Tuesday.

It was followed by KFA´s honorary secretary Datuk Aminuddin Omar and KFA treasurer Datuk Yusof Ismail, who have both tendered their resignation yesterday.
