MCA set up two committees to reform party

KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Bernama) -- MCA Central Committee members have agreed to set up two committees in efforts to reform and transform the party for the better, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said the two committees are the Party Election Steering Committee and Reform Committee.

"The Party Election Steering Committee will be chaired by MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan, it has been established to immediately initiate the processes necessary for the MCA party election," he said in a press conference after the MCA Central Committee meeting held at MCA headquarters, here today.

Meanwhile the Reform Committee, to be chaired by MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, will include the Organising Bureau, Publicity Bureau, Political Education Bureau, Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Research (INSAP), MCA Youth and MCA Wanita.

"This Reform Committee will explore MCA's political line and explore various proposals, such as the transformation of MCA into a multi-racial political party and and many more. MCA respects the decision by voters during the 14th General Election (GE14)."

"We (MCA) will play an effective role in the opposition... this election has also opened up a new era of a two-party system, a goal which everyone was hoping for, and it is the aspiration of MCA that our nation progresses," he said.

Liow said MCA hoped the new Pakatan Harapan government is able to carry out their promises and MCA would monitor closely the administration of the new government.

"We (MCA) recognise the problems we face and will strengthen ourselves so that we can do our best to rectify them. MCA will work hard towards reforming the party...the two committees will have its brainstorming session soon," he said.

"For now, MCA is in the midst of getting feedback from the public and MCA members," he said, adding that a report would be prepared based on the feedback received and discussed among the committee members.
