Azmin to consider state govt stability, trust of Selangor residents for post
PUTRAJAYA, May 19 (Bernama) -- The stability of the state government and trust of people in Selangor will be among the factors considered by Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali to choose between the post of menteri besar and federal minister.
Mohamed Azmin said he met Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today to get a detailed picture of the roles to be played by him after being announced as the Economic Affairs Minister.
According to him, in the meeting with Dr Mahathir which lasted almost an hour at the Perdana Leadership Foundation here, the Prime Minister wanted him to assist in planning policies and strategies to strengthen and develop the country's economy.
Mohamed Azmin said he would also seek an audience with the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah soon to inform him of the new task assigned by the Prime Minister before making an official decision on his position.
"An explanation on the latest development to the Sultan of Selangor is very important as it involved the post of Menteri Besar and any changes should be done in order and in an orderly manner," he told reporters after the meeting.
Yesterday, Dr Mahathir announced a list of 15 cabinet ministers including naming Mohamed Azmin as Economic Affairs Minister.
In his reaction, Mohamed Azmin was reported to be saying that he could not be holding two posts simultaneously and he would be meeting the Prime Minister to discuss his duties and further clarifications on his appointment as minister at federal level.
Asked on the first thing he would do if he accepts the Cabinet post, Mohamed Azmin said he would review all mega projects approved by the previous government.
He said priority would be given to projects which would benefit the people directly such as water supply and public housing where the Selangor government has the expertise and experience.
