ROS allows extension period for election of UMNO office bearers until April 2019
KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Bernama) -- The Registrar of Societies (ROS), has agreed to extend the election period of the UMNO Supreme Council and its other committees to April 19, next year.
UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the ROS had agreed to extend the period by referring to Article 10.16 of the party's constitution.
"The clause allows the postponement of elections at the Supreme Council level within a period of not more than 18 months from the date it was supposed to be held on April 30, 2018," he said in a statement today.
Tengku Adnan said that in line with the ROS decision, the UMNO Supreme Council had set the date of its annual convention and that of its Youth and Puteri wings from today until June 10.
He said the UMNO divisional meetings will be held on June 30, adding that the meetings will be conducted simultaneously with party elections at all levels.
Tengku Adnan said UMNO had received ROS approval of the extension of the election through a letter dated Oct 31, 2017.
