No overlapping duties between Economic Affairs and Finance Ministries - Guan Eng

GEORGE TOWN, May 20 (Bernama) -- There will be no overlapping duties between the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Ministry of Finance, according to Finance Minister-designate Lim Guan Eng.

"I really don't think so. The Finance Ministry will be the Finance Ministry, while the Economic Affairs Ministry will be in charge of the policies as the duties undertaken by JPM minister (in the Prime Minister's Department) before," he told reporters when asked to comment on the two portfolios here today.

Last Friday, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced the lists of Cabinet ministers in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration including PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali as Minister of Economic Affairs.

Guan Eng, however, said it was up to Mohamed Azmin, who is Selangor Menteri Besar, to accept or reject it.

"He (Mohamed Azmin) contacted me yesterday, saying that he has yet to decide whether or not to accept the appointment and forgo his Menteri Besar's post. So, let's wait and see," he said.

Meanwhile, on the Penang Bridge toll abolition as promised by the Pakatan Harapan during the 14th General Election campaign, Guan Eng said what would be focused on right now were the promises which must be fulfilled in the first 100 days of PH administration.

"I have said it before. Let us fulfill the 100-day promises first, then only we will focus on other matters," he said.

Guan Eng said what matters most now was to get the full information on the financial situation.

"We just want to make sure that no details or files remain undisclosed," he said.
