AMK urges assets of former ministers, BN MPs to be frozen

GEORGE TOWN, May 23 (Bernama) -- Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), the Youth wing of PKR, today urged the government to freeze the assets of Cabinet ministers and Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs under former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's administration to prevent money or assets from being taken out of the country.

AMK deputy head Dr Afif Bahardin said this was because of the 1MDB scandal whereby every Cabinet minister and BN MP during Najib's time were also responsible for it.

"Angkatan Muda Keadilan is stunned by the announcement by the new Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng that since April 2017, Malaysians through the Finance Ministry had to pay almost RM7 billion to pay debts due to the 1MDB scandal.

"This announcement confirms all our claims that the UMNO-led Barisan Nasional coalition had used public funds and forced the public to bear the burden of debt caused by the implementation of the 1MDB," he said in a statement here today.

He said Najib should not be the only one made accountable because each member of the cabinet and BN MP had to bear the collective responsibility for the debacle.

"They not only failed to stop the (former) prime minister, but also approved and allowed the criminal activities of the 1MDB," he said.
