KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 (Bernama) -- The leadership crisis in Perlis involving the reappointment of Datuk Seri Azlan Man as Menteri Besar and the proposal for his expulsion from UMNO were uncalled for, says UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said Azlan's appointment as the Menteri Besar for the second term must be respected as the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail must have taken into account all aspects for the benefit of the people.

"This kind of crisis is uncalled for and should not have happened."

"Right now, UMNO is in rehabilitation process, the people are watching us and evaluating our every action. They have given their mandate to BN to retain power in Perlis and the trust they placed on us must be honoured," he posted on Instagram tonight.

Furthermore, Hishammuddin said the expulsion of an UMNO member from the party was the prerogative of its Supreme Council upon recommendation from the Disciplinary Board, and not from any state liaison committee chairman.

Yesterday, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin expressed sadness over the political situation on the state when none of the nine other BN assemblymen attended the swearing-in ceremony of Azlan as the Menteri Besar at the palace.

All of them were absent because they said they disagreed with the appointment of Azlan.

BN won 10 out of 15 State Legislative Assembly seats in the 14th General Election on May 9 to form the state government with a two-thirds majority.
