Wan Azizah finds time for constituents despite busy schedule

KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 (Bernama) -- Despite her busy schedule as Deputy Prime Minister and a Cabinet Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail still managed to find time to look into the wellbeing of her constituents.

Dr Wan Azizah who won the Pandan parliamentary seat in the 14th general election, today visited victims of a squatter house fire in Pandan Jaya here soon after attending the second Cabinet meeting and media conference in Putrajaya.

The Women, Family and Community Development Minister spent about 30 minutes to look into the welfare needs of 70 fire victims who were being temporary housed at Dewan Pandan Bestari.

"The government will obtain assistance to lighten their burden. In the short term we will provide them with basic comfort here as it is just a transit point," she told reporters here.

In the incident at about 3.30am this morning, all 70 victims in the squatter house area were made homeless.

There were however no casualties reported.

Dr Wan Azizah also presented her personal contributions in cash money to all the victims.

She said the Welfare Department and the Hulu Langat district office would be arranging all forms of assistance for the victims as soon as possible.

She said the government would also provide all victims with tents for their privacy at the temporary shelter.
