PH will continue to champion cause of Orang Asli community in N.Sembilan

SEREMBAN, May 31 (Bernama) -- The cause of the Orang Asli community in Negeri Sembilan will continue to be championed by the Pakatan Harapan government, said State Rural Development Committee Chairman Ismail Ahmad.

The Labu Assemblyman said that the state government would also strive to ensure the community was not left out of development.

"We will continue to champion the cause of the Orang Asli community in the best possible way in line with the development agenda of the country. We will continue any programmes implemented by the previous government which are good for the people.

"The assistance provided to the Orang Asli community will be continued...it is not a problem. However, the implementation needs to be improved and done in a more transparent manner," he told reporters after handing over Hari Raya aid to 35 Orang Asli families under a volunteerism programme organised by the Nilai Polytechnic at an Orang Asli settlement in Kampung Tekir, Labu near here today.

At the event, each family received groceries and cash of RM200.

Ismail said he had also met with the State's Orang Asli Development Department director yesterday and would continue to engage with the department as part of the efforts to improve the community's standard of living.

He said in Negeri Sembilan, there were 69 Orang Asli settlements with a population of 11,919.
