Opposition reps will be given equal opportunity to be heard in state assembly - MB

MELAKA, June 5 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government will give equal opportunity to all state assemblymen including from the opposition to be heard at state assembly sittings, said Chief Minister Adly Zahari.

He said this would enable all to make suggestions or air their views.

"We will also extend the debate period in line with our aim of having quality debates," he told reporters after closing the two-day 2018 Series 1 Melaka State Assembly Procedure Course at the Seri Negeri Complex, Ayer Keroh here today.

Adly said he expected that the first sitting of the State Assembly would not involve long debate time.

"However, when it involves issues such as the budget then we will give space to all assemblymen to debate it ... the wellbeing of the people is paramount," he said.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) formed the state government in Melaka when it obtained a simple majority in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Barisan Nasional (BN) failed to defend Melaka after only winning 13 state seats out of 28 seats to enable PH to form the state government after the GE14 on May 9.
