Allocation to states must be fair - Wan Azizah
PUTRAJAYA, June 7 (Bernama) -- The federal government today gave the assurance that allocations to the state governments will be done in a fair manner by taking into account the financial capacity of each state.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the federal government's policy was announced by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to state representatives at the National Finance Council meeting here today.
"The Prime Minister said that the federal government must be equitable.
"Some rich states can accommodate (the expenses) compared to poorer states that should get more allocation," she told reporters after the meeting.
Wan Azizah said the federal government also adopted a fair policy towards the opposition-led state governments.
"Even though they are not with the federal government, (allocation) will be channeled, but must (finally reach) the people regardless of party," she said.
